Title: Influence of dynaMics on the adsorption and Transport properties in polymeric materials for membrane technologies.

ICCOM Principal Investigator: Elisa Carignani.

Project type: National.

Duration: 30/11/2023 – 29/11/2025.

Abstract: The required transition toward a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy pushed the research community to develop new materials for cutting-edge technologies related to energy and the environment. The design and development of new materials with the desired application properties goes hand in hand with the understanding of the structural and dynamic properties at the molecular level. To this aim the availability of methodological protocols for advanced material characterization, able to unravel the complex relationships between “microscopic” and macroscopic properties, is a goal of upmost importance. In-MoTion is a project aimed at the development of advanced protocols based on the combination of solid-state NMR spectroscopy (SSNMR) with computational modelling methods for the in-depth characterization of the dynamic properties of advanced polymeric materials for membrane technologies. In particular, the study will be focused on novel polymeric materials with promising applications as gas separation membranes for CO2 separation and capture and as ion conductive polymer membranes for high-efficiency polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cells.
