Title: New fluorescent organic compounds for concentrated photovoltaics.

ICCOM Principal Investigator: Lorenzo Zani.

Project type: National.

Duration: 30/07/2020 – 31/03/2022.

Abstract: Among the emerging photovoltaic technologies are luminescent solar concentrators (LSC), transparent and colored devices, capable of trapping solar radiation on a very large surface and concentrating it, directing it towards solar cells with a much smaller surface, greatly reducing the cost of the electricity produced. The participants in the “SUNNYSIDE” project intend to design and synthesize new organic fluorescent compounds with a unprecedented structures and use them as LSC emitters. The relationship between the structures of the compounds and their photophysical properties will be studied both in solution and in polymer dispersion by means of advanced spectroscopic techniques (both static and time-resolved), allowing to identify the most promising compounds to be used for the fabrication of the devices. The last part of the work will consist in the construction of LSCs on a laboratory scale and in the measurement of their performance, with the aim of producing devices with characteristics comparable or superior to the current state-of-the-art.
