Title: Wastewater treatment and monitoring with luminescent mixed-linker Metal-Organic Frameworks as chemical sensors and adsorbents of Contaminants of Emerging Concern.

ICCOM Principal Investigator: Andrea Rossin.

Project type: National.

Duration: 16/10/2023 – 15/10/2025.

Abstract: LUMIMOF is focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel zirconium(IV) mixed-linker MOFs (MIXMOFs) containing heterocyclic units that impart luminescence in the visible region to the material. Then, their luminescence will be studied in aqueous suspensions in the presence of selected Contaminants od Emerging Concern (CECs), to assess their potential as luminescent sensors. The best performing sensors will also be tested for CECs removal through adsorption (thus yielding a multifunctional material). The most promising MIXMOFs in terms of both luminescence sensing and adsorption will be exploited to prepare 3D devices using Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing. LUMIMOF combines the expertise of two Research Units with different but complementary scientific skills, for a successful project targets achievement: the synthesis of heterocycle-containing (MIX)MOFs, their structural and (spectro)chemical characterization and their employment as multifunctional materials in 3D devices for environmental remediation.
