PRIN 2022 “E-ICES”
Title: Probing the Exotic properties of gas and ions filled ICES under extreme conditions: from planetary interiors modelling to hydrogen storage and green Energy applications.
ICCOM Principal Investigators: Samuele Fanetti, Demetrio Scelta.
Project Type: National.
Duration: 28/09/2023 – 27/09/2025.
Abstract: In the quest to understand celestial ice bodies, vital for comprehending life’s origins, our team explores the behavior of key molecules (hydrogen, water, methane, nitrogen, ammonia) under extreme pressure and temperature. Recent breakthroughs revealed ice’s ability to host ions and gases, defying conventional physics. These ‘filled ices’ challenge our understanding and offer solutions like advanced gas storage and CO2 capture. Our project aims to define, create, and apply these remarkable materials, aligning with the European Green Deal and PNRR’s clean energy ambitions. Using innovative methods, we delve into the mysteries of these exotic ices, bridging fundamental science with practical applications.
