PRIN 2022 “CLEAN AIR”
Title: Low dimensional Coordination poLymErs for VOC AdsorptioN and AIR remediation.
ICCOM Principal Investigator: Lucia Calucci.
Project type: National.
Duration: 16/10/2023 – 15/10/2025.
Abstract: CLEAN AIR aims at developing novel 1D coordination polymers (CPs) for the adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, benzaldehyde, and nitroaromatic compounds. In the project, bispidine ligands designed on the basis of previous works and selected metal ions will be combined to construct 1D CPs with a flexible and responsive lattice, capable to adsorb target VOCs, also from humid air. We expect to obtain many different crystalline CPs, in the form of free host or guest@host, which will be investigated by X-ray diffraction, high- and low-resolution solid state NMR techniques and thermoanalytical methods to extract information on their structure and dynamics, as well as on the energetics of inter-ribbon interactions and solvent-ribbon interactions. Novel CPs will be tested for guest adsorption, desorption, and exchange, outlining major structure-to-function relationships useful to select the best adsorbent CPs for targeted VOCs.
