Title: Advanced injectable nano-composite biomaterials with dual therapeutic/regenerative behaviors for bone cancer.

Abstract: The main objective of this project is the develoment of bifunctional advanced injectable materials for bone cancer treatment through minimally invasive surgery. These materials should inhibit cancer cell proliferation and in the same time stimulate the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of healthy cells inducing a new bone tissue formation/mineralization. The innovation of these materials is the coexistence of the specific therapeutic function with the bone tissue regeneration ability. They will be developed starting from 2D materials such as graphene oxide and exfoliated black phosphorus (prepared at ICCOM Florence), whose anti-cancer effects have already been reported (not yet on bone cancer), suitably encapsulated in micelles and then incorporated in injectable organic-inorganic hybrid materials. The first part of the project will be devoted to the preparation of optimized materials, together with their advanced characterization (an extensive Solid State NMR charaterization will be carried out at ICCOM Pisa), while during the second part of the project the obtained materials will be tested in vitro and in vivo.
