Title: Innovative photovoltaics for indoor applications.

ICCOM Principal Investigator: Gianna Reginato.

Project Type: National.

Duration: 01/03/2022 – 29/02/2024.

Abstract: The purpose of the “VINCI” project is to build and validate an innovative photovoltaic device which, by recovering artificial light and indoors diffused sunlight, can make small data collection and transmission devices, such as environmental sensors, which can be integrated into IoT networks, energetically self-sufficient. The photovoltaic technology selected for this purpose is that of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs). The research fellow will deal, within the CNR-ICCOM unit, with the preparation of components for DSSC, especially designed to maximize energy production in low light conditions, and with the assembly of photovoltaic devices for efficiency tests. Subsequently, the research fellow will be trained at the partner Cicci Research, in order to characterize the produced DSSCs using specifically dedicated analysis tools. The analysis of DSSCs, simulating the different intensity of irradiation typical of indoor environments and exploring the possible configurations of use, will allow to evaluate their application as power supplies for IoT nodes. On the other hand, this collaboration will allow Cicci Research to broaden the spectrum of characterization techniques available with its tools, developing an analysis protocol for photovoltaics also for indoor use. The presence of a bridging professional figure between the project partners will facilitate the ongoing optimization of the various components of the photovoltaic device and the method of analysis.
