Title: Novel diagnostics biosensor for breast cancer biomarker using nanomaterials-based metal-organic frameworks.
ICCOM Principal Investigator: Maria Caporali.
Project type: International.
Duration: 01/01/2025- 31/12/2026.
Abstract: The main goal is to develop a novel diagnostic biosensor for the early detection of breast cancer biomarkers using polymeric nanomaterials-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that offers superior sensitivity and specificity, compared to conventional diagnostic methods and is cost-effective. The starting point will be the synthesis of MOFs functionalized with biocompatible polymeric nanomaterials aiming to enhance surface area, porosity, and chemical stability. Afterwards a biosensor platform incorporating the optimized MOF-polymeric composites will be developed and functionalized with specific recognition elements (antibodies or aptamers). In vitro and ex-vivo testing using laboratory and clinical samples will be performed to validate the biosensor’s sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and reproducibility in real-world conditions. These actions will be carried out in collaboration between the Egyptian NRC and Italian CNR to realize a functional prototype of a highly selective biosensor for breast cancer biomarkers detection.
