Mission Innovation – Hydrogen Demo Valley
Title: Mission Innovation – Hydrogen Demo Valley.
ICCOM Principal Investigator: Alessandro Lavacchi.
Project type: National.
Duration: 11/05/2021 – 11/05/2026.
Abstract: The Hydrogen Demo Valley project aims to create an infrastructure hub dedicated to research, innovation, and demonstration of technologies for the production, storage, distribution, and use of hydrogen and hydrogen-natural gas blends across the energy, industrial, and transport sectors. Located at the ENEA Casaccia Research Center, north of Rome, the facility will serve as an integrated ecosystem for testing and validating technologies, components, and services along the hydrogen value chain. ICCOM is responsible for three lines of activity focused on developing advanced PGM-free catalysts for electrolysis and reforming, as well as building low-temperature alkaline prototypes (up to 500 W). Activities include the synthesis of catalysts for bio-alcohols and renewable compounds, along with the development of conductive supports based on titanium nanotubes. The outcomes will contribute to efficient, sustainable hydrogen production and the advancement of innovative systems for alkaline electrolysis.
