Dr. Giambastiani graduated in Chemistry cum laude in 1997 from the University of Florence and received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Florence (Italy) and the University of Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris IV (France) in 2000 under the joint supervision of Prof. Giovanni Poli and Prof. Max Malacria. After spending a period as Premier Assistant à la Faculté des Sciences at the University of Lausanne, UNIL under the supervision of Prof. Carlo Floriani and a subsequent post-doctoral position at the University of Milan under the supervision of Prof. Carlo Scolastico, he joined in 2002 the ICCOM group (Institute of Chemistry of OrganoMetallic Compounds of the Italian National Research Council – ICCOM-CNR) where he holds the position of Senior Researcher since 2007. His current scientific activity spans from organic and organometallic synthesis and catalysis (homogeneous and heterogeneous) to the preparation and characterization of technologically advanced materials and composites based on functionalized carbon nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene-oxide and fullerenes.
